Western-style riding lessons will focus on teaching students the basics of western riding or stock riding. We will teach you to ride your horse so that it responds to your cues and direction to deliver a pleasurable experience. Your horse will be a reflection of the way you ride it, and in Western Pleasure we will teach you how to ride and cue your horse, so that its gaits are smooth, natural, and relaxed. You will learn to ride all the transitions; walk, jog (slow sitting trot), lope (canter on the correct lead). Riding “Western” or stock seat is usually associated with cowboys, rodeos, and trail riding, but it encompasses a whole array of activities including barrels, roping, and showing.
What to wear:
As with polo and english riding lessons, the beginning western riding student need not make a large up-front investment in equipment. All that is required is a pair of jeans, boots with a heel, and a riding helmet. Saddlery Liquidators in Haymarket is offering riding gear packages for Battlefield Park Polo Club and Equestrian Center students.
