About Dori Haller Burner
I'm happiest when surrounded by my children and horses... Battlefield Park Polo is my effort to live doing something I love. I discovered polo a few years ago in Newport, Rhode Island. Horses had always been part of my life and the thing I most loved. It was my father who said, "Do what you know or do what you love and you will always be happy and successful."
My start in polo began with a polo lesson in Newport. After a year or so I started to work to become an instructor. Taking lessons in earnest riding five days a week and apprenticing with different polo trainers. I was never a good rider, but polo is rather forgiving, it is for the cowboy in all of us. Polo made me stronger in so many ways.
What made all the hard work worthwhile was the laughter and joy of all those who were learning to ride and play polo, the children, dogs, and horses, it was a good place for me. A year later under the guidance of the Newport Polo Club, I started a lesson program and it was a great adventure. Out of that lesson program came dozens of new polo enthusiasts and several new club players as well as two Interscholastic and Intercollegiate teams: Newport Youth Polo and Brown University Polo.
Now I coach two Battlefield Park Interscholastic Teams as well as George Washington University Men's and Women's Intercollegiate Teams. We have adult polo and riding lessons and children's summer programs and lessons....students I started at Battlefield these past four years are now having their first grass polo season. Very exciting!
I am truly blessed. I wake up every day and do something I love and can share this with anyone who wants to learn to ride a horse or experience the utter exhilaration that is polo! xoxo
