Who We Are

About Dori Haller Burner

I'm happiest when surrounded by my children and horses... Battlefield Park Polo is my effort to live doing something I love. I discovered polo a few years ago in Newport, Rhode Island. Horses had always been part of my life and the thing I most loved. It was my father who said, "Do what you know or do what you love and you will always be happy and successful."

My start in polo began with a polo lesson in Newport. After a year or so I started to work to become an instructor. Taking lessons in earnest riding five days a week and apprenticing with different polo trainers. I was never a good rider, but polo is rather forgiving, it is for the cowboy in all of us. Polo made me stronger in so many ways.

What made all the hard work worthwhile was the laughter and joy of all those who were learning to ride and play polo, the children, dogs, and horses, it was a good place for me. A year later under the guidance of the Newport Polo Club, I started a lesson program and it was a great adventure. Out of that lesson program came dozens of new polo enthusiasts and several new club players as well as two Interscholastic and Intercollegiate teams: Newport Youth Polo and Brown University Polo.

Now I coach two Battlefield Park Interscholastic Teams as well as George Washington University Men's and Women's Intercollegiate Teams. We have adult polo and riding lessons and children's summer programs and lessons....students I started at Battlefield these past four years are now having their first grass polo season. Very exciting!

I am truly blessed. I wake up every day and do something I love and can share this with anyone who wants to learn to ride a horse or experience the utter exhilaration that is polo! xoxo

About Battlefield Park Polo Club

Battlefield Park Polo Club is a year round riding facility which strives to bring the sport of polo to a wider audience. We believe in making strong and confident riders in an inexpensive, safe, and fun environment. We encourage our students to learn the riding and horsemanship skills that will turn them into better polo players and equestrians. If you have never ridden a horse or are an advanced rider who wants to learn a fun new game, we are the barn for you.

Battlefield Park Polo Club started as a vision and became a reality. Battlefield plays host to over 350 students who come here to learn to ride, play polo, jump and have fun! We are never short on laughter here at Battlefield Park Polo!

Our Equestrian Facilities

Battlefield Park is nestled on 6 acres of beautiful pastures and mature trees, and we have a small retention pond that houses our fish and turtles. We have just completed an indoor arena that measures 75' x 150' of riding area with 16' ceilings to accommodate all equestrian activities in inclement weather. The indoor arena has 10 stalls attached and a beautiful lounge and tack room with powder room. Our outdoor arena measures 120' x 200' and can be used in most weather conditions due to its crushed blue stone footing. Our small barn houses 10 horses and a small tack and feed room. We lease surrounding pastures in which our horses live most of the year. Click the image to the right to view some photos of our facilities.
